Since 2001, Secretary Vincent P. Meconi has led the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS), the largest cabinet department and the state’s fifth largest employer. Secretary Meconi leads a diverse agency representing 4,800 staff members who work in over 30 locations throughout the state.

Secretary Meconi has worked for the State of Delaware for more than 30 years. He was first employed as a data analyst. Between 1975 and 1983, he held a range of positions, ending as a Director of Planning for the Administrative Office of the Courts in Wilmington. In 1982, Secretary Meconi successfully ran for office as representative of the 21st District and served for two years. He then worked for many years with U.S. Senator Thomas R. Carper, first as an executive assistant when Carper was a Congressman 1987-1991, and then as his campaign manager in his 1992 race for Governor.

Before becoming DHSS Secretary, Mr. Meconi was Cabinet Secretary for the Delaware Department of Administrative Services.
