WHYY on-air membership drives are an important part of our funding. But we know that once you donate, you'd rather listen without membership breaks. Y Stream is a pledge-free online radio service offered as a thank-you gift for our winter on-air membership campaign. Y Stream FAQY Stream is an alternate live stream of WHYY FM only available over the Internet. Y Stream will carry all regular WHYY radio programming, including live news reports. It will omit all fundraising breaks. Your donation for this gift will allow you to access Y Stream on multiple devices, but only one device at a time. You will be able to access the stream beginning the day you subscribe, through the end of the on-air membership campaign which begins January 30. What technology is required to use the Y Stream? Y Stream works with desktop audio players like iTunes and Windows Media Player. You'll also need a recent version of common web browsers like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari or Google Chrome. You may also access Y Stream using your iPhone's or iPad's web browser. What if I am already a member, or just made a donation to WHYY? Y Stream is made available to members as a thank-you gift for your donation, in the same way that we offer CDs, mugs or umbrellas. Based on feedback from listeners, we are offering Y Stream at two donation levels: $60 for existing members; and $80 for new members. This donation level applies to each on-air campaign. Y Stream is still a new concept and one we see as fundamental to serving our members. As with any new endeavor, it will take some growing pains before we determine the best way to offer the stream. There is also a substantial cost that WHYY must cover to produce this secondary stream. The funds raised through this service will help offset those costs. Your feedback will help us improve our service to you, as well as understand the value of this gift. I am a current WHYY sustaining member. Do I receive a discount on Y Stream? Yes. Despite the fact that Y Stream incurs costs to WHYY, we want to offer Y Stream as a special benefit if you are a current sustainer, or choose to become a WHYY sustainer at the $60 level or above. Basic membership to WHYY begins at $50. Donating for Y Stream entitles you to all the perks of WHYY membership for one year. If you are already a member, the donation will be counted as an additional gift to WHYY. If your membership is up for renewal (three months before it expires), the donation will renew your membership. Will I be able to listen pledge-free for other pledge drives too? No. Your donation for Y Stream applies to the current pledge drive only. Can I sign up once the membership drive begins? No. This special offer is available only through midnight on Sunday, January 29th If you miss the deadline, you will need to contact a Member Services Representative during our regular business hours of Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. What if I want to select other thank-you gifts as well? This is the only gift you can select, so that we can direct more of your donation to support WHYY programming. We recognize that a lot of our members listen to us at work, at home, and on the go via their smartphones. Consequently, we've made it possible for you to access the stream on more than one device. However, you may only be logged in on one device at a time. Can I listen to Y Stream on my radio? No, it is not possible to access the Internet stream with a conventional radio. Currently, Y Stream is only available though a computer, iPhone, or iPad. I just pledged for Y Stream, what can I expect? You can only pledge for Y Stream by going to our Y Stream designated website (www.whyy.org/ystream). Since your Y Stream donation directs you to a PayPal site, you will receive an email confirmation from service@paypal.com that will confirm your payment to WHYY. This is just an email receipt from PayPal. You will still receive a hardcopy acknowledgement of your pledge from WHYY in approximately 2-3 weeks. You will also receive an immediate email confirmation from memberservices@whyy.org which will provide the browser links, user name and password for your Y Stream access. If you don't receive an immediate email, you want to ensure you typed in the proper email address and/or check your 'spam' or 'junk' email folder. Once you receive your credentials, test it out! You can start streaming right away and work out any potential technical kinks before we go live with our Winter Membership Campaign on Monday, January 30th. Confirm your speakers are on and the volume is turned up. What do I do if I never received my confirmation email with my Personalized Access Code? If you submitted your donation through the appropriate Y Stream donation links, you were immediately sent a confirmation email containing your personalized access code to the same email address used on the form. If you can't find the confirmation email, please check your "spam" or "junk email" folder as it may have been misdirected there. If you cannot retrieve that email, please contact our Y Stream Technical Support Staff at (215) 351-0511 or email us at ystreamtechsupport@whyy.org and we can have your credentials resent to the email address provided at the time of the donation. What if I forgot my login and/or Personalized Access Code? Your login requires the email address you shared with WHYY when completing the online donation form. Your personalized access code is sent to you in your donation confirmation email. If you cannot retrieve that email, please contact our Y Stream Technical Support Staff at (215) 351-0511 or email us at ystreamtechsupport@whyy.org and we can have your credentials resent to the email address provided at the time of the donation. How do I access Y Stream over my smartphone? Note: At this time iPhone is the only supported smartphone. I can't find the underscore symbol on my iPhone On the keyboard screen, press the ".?123" key. On the numbers screen, press the "#+=" key. What if I click on one of the Y Stream access links and nothing happens? Based on the personal settings of your computer or iDevice, sometimes your computer or iDevice will not recognize the link as an audio stream. You may have to assist it by opening up the desired media player (Windows Media Player, iTunes, Real Player, etc...) yourself, then you can copy and paste the Y Stream access link as a URL or audio stream.
We can assure you the user name and password received in your welcome email are 100% accurate. Sometimes, with the initial log-in, you can get a message that tells you the user name and/or password is incorrect. This 'glitch' sometimes happens as part of the authentication process. All you need to do to rectify the situation, is log out and try again. If you log out, try again and it still does not work, clear your cache and cookies and try once more. Sometimes your computer or iDevice will not recognize the link as an audio stream, even if it did previously. You may have to assist it by opening up the desired media player (Windows Media Player, iTunes, Real Player, etc...) yourself, then you can copy and paste the Y Stream access link as a URL or audio stream.
