Stumbling on Happiness

Listen via Real Audio | mp3

We all spend much time trying to predict our emotional future. How happy would I feel if I had a big new house? How miserable would I be if my partner left me, and I lost my job? And based on our predictions, we try very hard to create or to avoid situations and events. But, are we doing a good job in predicting our emotional reactions to future events? Not really, says Harvard Psychologist Daniel Gilbert. He argues that along with making many processing mistakes, our brains "cook the books" when it comes to remembering good and bad events. We'll discuss Gilbert's research on emotional reactions, and his new book "Stumbling on Happiness."

Post-Abortion Grief

Listen via Real Audio | mp3

Abortion is a highly charged topic. Debates about abortion are always passionate, but rarely compassionate, taking into account the emotional needs of people faced with unwanted pregnancy. Dan Gottlieb and his guests will discuss grief after abortion, and we'll find out what one man is doing to provide counseling without moral judgement. We'll be joined by George Zallie and Stephanie Newberg. George Zallie founded the Stacy Zallie Foundation (www.stacyzallie.org) after the tragic death of his daughter to provide counseling for girls. Stephanie Newberg is a Senior Staff Therapist at the Council for Relationships. We'll also hear from Jen Boulanger, Executive Director of the Allentown Women's Center who will discuss pre-abortion counseling.

Dan Gottlieb and his guests will discuss how families can talk about money, and teach their children priceless lessons about spending, saving, and the deeper meaning of money. Our guest is Thomas C. Rogerson, senior director with Mellon's Private Wealth Management Group. We'll also be joined by New Jersey Psychologist Dr. Edward Monte.
