Crazy Busy

Listen via Real Audio | mp3

Do you write emails while talking on the phone while eating your lunch? These days, everybody tries to multitask - but what are we really accomplishing? Not much - according to ADD expert Dr. Ed Hallowell. He likens our busy life styles to trying to play tennis with multiple balls. Hallowell joins us to discuss his new book, Crazy Busy. We'll also hear from Dr. Gloria Mark, she is a professor at the University of California at Irvine, and has studied workplace interruptions.

Communicating with Healthcare Professionals

Listen via Real Audio | mp3

A recent survey of over six-thousand patients reports that Americans from all different ethnic backgrounds receive similar healthcare, but that it's mediocre care for all. Dan Gottlieb and his guests will discuss how to improve one major component of good medical care; doctor-patient communications. Our guest is Dr. Barry Bub, who has written "Communication Skills that Heal." We'll also hear from Dr. Michael Baime, director of The Penn Program for Stress Management, he has developed mindfulness courses for healthcare professionals.

Adults and Autism

Listen via Real Audio | mp3

A lot of news stories cover children and autism; whether the incidence is skyrocketing, speculations about causes, and what treatment should look like. But what about adults with autism? Many of them are either mis - or undiagnosed, and for the ones with an autism diagnosis, there are not a lot of services. Often, their families serve as their advocates. Dan Gottlieb and his guests will discuss the needs of this growing population, and find out what kinds of services are or should be available. We'll be joined by Nina Wall Cote, Paul Potito, and Dr. Anthony Rostain. Cote is Director of Autism Affairs for the State of Pennsylvania. Paul Potito is executive director for COSAC (Center for Outreach and Services for the Autism Community) in New Jersey. Dr. Anthony Rostain is medical director of the Adult Developmental Disorders Section at the University of Pennsylvania. We'll also hear from Tony, a man in his late 60's who is living with the disorder.
