Listen »

According to several new reports, Latinos are one of the most under-served populations where mental health services are concerned. There is also pervasive stigma surrounding mental health in the Latino community. Dan Gottlieb and his guests will discuss access to quality mental health care as well as outreach programs to reduce stigma. We'll also hear about an upcoming national conference on Latino Behavioral Health. We'll be joined by Claudia Garcia Leeds and Ambrose Rodriguez. Claudia Garcia Leeds is a clinical and behavioral consultant at Congreso de Latinos Unidos in Philadelphia. She works with their Latina Domestic Violence program and ALCANZA, a teen pregnancy prevention & intervention program. Ambrose Rodriguez is president and founder of the Latino Behavioral Health Institute and assistant director of the Los Angeles department of Mental Health. We'll also hear from Domingo Nieres, who battles depression and now reaches out to the Latino community.

Encore Presentation: A Conversation with Jon Kabat-Zinn

Listen »

How many times a day do we actually experience the very moment we are in? When are we not thinking ahead, planning, multi-tasking, wishing we were somewhere else? What does it mean to be present in the moment? And what would it mean to our lives? We'll listen to Dan Gottlieb's conversation with Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D. Zinn is the founder and director of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He is a renowned teacher of Mindfulness, a technique designed to help people calm their minds, and focus on the presence. He employs mindfulness meditation - sitting and focusing on one's breath - to teach people to be more aware of each passing moment. Research shows that mindfulness meditation can reduce anxiety and depression, lower blood pressure, and help patients deal with chronic pain and illness.
