Voices In The Family December 2004 Voices In The Family shows12/6/04 Pre-empted 12/13/04 According to a national survey conducted by SAMHSA, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, nine percent of Americans between the ages of 12 and 17 are abusing illicit drugs and alcohol. The number of adolescent treatment admissions increased 65% (from 95,000 admissions in 1992 to 156,000 in 2002) and accounted for 8% of all admissions. A majority of American teens experiment with drugs and alcohol before they graduate from high school. For some, experimentation leads to addiction. During this year, Voices in the Family has taken a look at many issues surrounding adolescents and addiction in a three-part series, and during this program, we'll listen to excerpts from our interviews, to revisit some of the most important points and summarize the information. Linda Burkett is the Victim Witness Coordinator at the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. Everett Worthington is the Director of the "Campaign for Forgiveness" Research. He is also a Professor and Chair of Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University. Kathleen O'Hara is a psychotherapist in private practice in Philadelphia.
