Treating Trauma

The traditional approach to treating trauma is talk therapy. Today, many therapists argue that talking about traumatic experiences doesn't help patients overcome past suffering. Instead, these trauma experts are trying new and controversial approaches - approaches that other experts say lack a scientific foundation. Dan Gottlieb will explore the controversy over treating trauma with Dr. Edna Foa and Dr. Bessel van der Kolk. Foa is Director of the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania. Van der Kolk is Clinical Director of the Trauma Center at HRI Hospital in Massachusetts. Adolescents and Addiction Part 1

52 percent of teens say that drugs are kept, used, or sold in their high school. A lot of programs are dedicated to prevention - but - are we sending the right message? We'll begin a four-part series on the topic of adolescents and addiction, and discuss prevention, and different models of addiction. Our guests are David Rotenberg, Executive Director for Adolescent Services at Caron Foundation, and Dr. Arlene Terras - she did research on adolescents and substance abuse at Belmont Center for Comprehensive Treatment. We'll also hear from Dr. Howard Liddle, Director of the University of Miami Center for Treatment Research on Adolescent Drug Abuse. Listen »
