Black Pepper Chocolate Cookies

For this recipe you will need:

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
3/4 cup cocoa
3/4 cup butter, at room temperature
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup sugar
1 egg

Preheat the oven to 375°.

Sift together the baking powder, salt, flour and cocoa, and set these ingredients aside. In another bowl, mix together the butter, spices and vanilla. Blend in the sugar and beat in the egg. Gradually stir the flour mixture into the butter mixture.

Shape the dough into 1-inch balls. Place them 1 1/2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets. Flatten each ball to 1/4-inch thickness. Bake for 12 minutes, then cool on a rack, and frost if desired.

This recipe will make 3 dozen cookies.
