Oysters and Smoked Sausage Dumplings

For this recipe you will need:

For the dough:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons shorten8ing
  • 1 egg

For the filling:

  • 1 dozen steamed oysters
  • 1/2 cup ground cooked sausage

Combine all the dough ingredients and kneed dough until combined and set aside for 30 minutes. Divide dough into quarters - roll out to a 1/8 inch thickness - divide into two and half inch squares. Place a poached oyster and teaspoon of sausage in each square and fold over and crimp corners. Place in salted boiling water for 3-5 minutes. Remove and serve with your favorite sauce.
