Jim Coleman Recipes Apple Dumplings For this recipe you will need:
To prepare this recipe: Preheat the oven to 400 Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in the shortening just until crumbly. Add the milk and stir just until the flour mixture is moistened. On a floured surface, roll out the dough just large enough to cut 4 6-inch squares. Place 1/2 apple on each square and sprinkle with a little cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour about 1 teaspoon of Maple Syrup over the apple and dot with 1 tablespoon butter. Pull all four corners of the dough up to meet in the middle, moisten the corners and pinch them together. Be sure to make a sealed package to help "steam" the apple. Bake about 8 minutes. Baste the dumplings with the Maple Syrup and reduce the heat to 300 F. Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown, basting often. Serve hot, with cold milk and sugar poured over the top.
