Pears Poached in Wine

For this recipe you will need:

  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 cup of red wine
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 Tablespoons of Orange Zest
  • 6 pears, peeled with stem intact

To prepare this recipe:

Slice off a small portion of the bottom of the pears so they can stand up. Place the pears with all the ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a gentle boil. Turn to a simmer and cover. Cook until the pears are tender, about 15 minutes. Remove the pears and bring the liquid back to a boil and reduce it to about a cup. Strain out the cinnamon stick and cloves. Serve the pears with cinnamon ice cream and top with the wine syrup.
