Nothing can trigger memory like food. Perhaps that is why memoirs with recipes have become so popular. We'll hear from three authors who bring their stories and favorite food memories to the table. Shoba Narayan recalls growing up as a Hindu in India, and the culture shock of coming to America. Her new book is "Monsoon Diary." Later, we'll escape to the Maine seashore with restaurateur Rebbeca Charles. Three generations of her family spent summers in Kennebunkport eating old-fashioned shore dinners. Rebecca has written "Lobster Rolls and Blueberry Pie." Finally, we'll hear from chef Scott Peacock who planned to study in Europe until he met Edna Lewis, an icon of Southern cookery. She convinced him to stick with his roots and the two have written "The Gift of Southern Cooking."

Americans have been trying to eat lean - replacing fatty foods with skim milk, margarine and egg substitutes. So, why has the nation gotten fatter over the last decade? Fran McCullough re-examines fat in her new book "The Good Fat Cookbook." We'll discuss new research, and find out how to work good fats into our diet. Later on, we'll rediscover the art of being a hostess with a 100-year old entertaining book: "The Good Housekeeping Hostess; An Old-Fashioned Guide to Gracious Living." We'll also figure out how to get dinner on the table in about as much time as it takes to call the pizza guy. Jim's guest is Linda Eckhard, author of "Half-Scratch Magic."

It's the 226th anniversary of Independence Day. Get your picnic basket and head for the fire works! Later, we'll visit the restaurant where our forefathers dined while discussing the future of our country. Finally, we'll find America's best hot dog stands, and stop by the Culinary Museum in Providence, Rhode Island.
