During this hour, we'll hear about a new approach to Irish cooking, which showcases the Emerald Isle's bounty of great ingredients. Jim's guest is chef and cooking teacher Darina Allen. We'll also discover the best Irish beers and spirits to toast with. Then, we'll jump to the defense of a much-maligned vegetable. We'll sing the praise of "the apple of the earth", hear about new potato varieties and find out the best ways to prepare each one. 3/19/05 For Christians, Easter has deeply religious significance. But this holiday also comes at a time of renewal and the arrival of spring. We'll hear about foods that celebrate Easter and Spring around the globe. Our first stop is Sicily, where we'll chat with cooking teacher Anna Tasca Lanza. She has written "The Heart of Sicily." Later in the show, we'll find out what foods celebrate Spring in Sweden, and taste a beer brewed special for this time of year. 3/26/05 Spanish cuisine has been attracting a lot of international attention. There are the delicious regional cuisines, great home cooks, and then, there is a group of ambitious chefs that is taking a unique scientific approach to cooking. Foodwriter Anya van Bremzen joins us to talk about what's happening in Spain's kitchens! Later on the show, one of Spain's most famous artists, Salvador Dali, is honored in a centennial retrospective at Philadelphia's Museum of Art. We'll hear from local chefs who have put a surreal touch on their menu for the occasion. Later we'll travel back in time with foodie maven Arthur Schwartz and look at the history of Food in New York City.
