Perhaps you've renovated a dead building, or dug a community garden with neighbors. Or maybe you've kept your business open in Philadelphia when friends told you "move to the suburbs." What keeps you here? Have you worked to keep your block healthy?
We'd like to hear family stories as well. Did your mother or grandmother work for years in that factory down the block? What do you remember about her workday? If blight has overcome your neighborhood, what were the first signs you saw? How has your block physically changed over the past ten years? the last 20?
Tell us how you imagine your neighborhood fifty years from now. What's changed? Is your family still here? Right now, if a new family was considering a house on your block, how would you sell the neighborhood to them?
Write your story to us here at WHYY, and include your contact information in case we want to write your back or call. Make sure to name which neighborhood, and how long you've lived there.
