Philadelphia Mayor John Street signed his long awaited anti-blight initative into law on March 13, 2002. The 295 million dollar plan promises to knock down 14 thousand abandoned buildings, clean up lots and try to attract developers to some of the city's forgotten neighborhoods. In 1999, John Street ran for Mayor of Philadelphia with promises to tear down thousands of buildings and attract developers to the city's forgotten neighborhoods. On March 13, Mayor Street will finally sign the 295 million dollar legislation to pay for his proposal. The demolition portion of the so-called Neighborhood Transformation Initiative is slated to start in mid-2002, but the plan still leaves many unanswered questions. WHYY's Mhari Saito reports.
