Millions of Americans suffer from chronic pain. Caused by injury or repetitive movements, chronic pain affects well being, general health and moods. Dan Gottlieb will discuss a new book called "Conquering Chronic Pain After Injury." It covers a variety of related topics from pain management to alternative medicine. Our guests are authors William H. Simon, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and Arnold Sadwin, M.D., psychiatrist at the Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital and the Belmont Center for Comprehensive Treatment. We'll also be joined by Chiropractor Sharon Berkowitz, who uses a unique technique called "Directional Non-Force."

Alzheimer's: Losing a Mind

Many experts warn that as the baby boomers age, Alzheimer's disease will reach epidemic proportions. Right now, about 4.5 million Americans are diagnosed with Alzheimer's. In the early stages, the effects are on memory are often mild, but as the mind deteriorates, relatives find their loved-ones become helpless and disoriented. Dan Gottlieb will talk to people suffering from Alzheimer's and their families. We'll discuss the latest research, and explore if there's hope for a cure. Later, we'll hear about a new public television documentary, The Forgetting, and talk about options for care, and support for caregivers.

Encore Presentation: Stigma of Obesity

The news are full of stories about the increase in obesity in our society. Most of us know about the physical health risks associated with obesity - but what about the psychological impact of obesity? A new study on the stigma of obesity shows that negative opinions of people who are overweight are far more pervasive than previously believed. We'll discuss the stigma of obesity with Dr. Marlene Schwartz, and Molly Kellog. Schwartz is Co-Director of the Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders, Kellog is a Registered dietitian and therapist in private practice in Pennsylvania. We'll also visit the Body Balance Program at Philadelphia's Renfrew Center.
