Children and Mental Health
Listen via Real Audio
A new study shows that the use of psychotropic medicines among children and adolescents has tripled since the late 80's. Children now take almost as much medication for mental illness as adults. We'll discuss the possible reasons for this stark increase and explore long-term treatment. Our guests are Dr. Paul Fink - Prof. of Psychiatry at Temple University School of Medicine. We'll also hear from Stephen Eliot whose memoir "Not the Thing I Was" details his experiences growing up in a school for mentally disturbed children.

Corporal Punishment
Listen via Real Audio
Parents are often tired and stressed out. The kids are pushing their buttons, being loud, and misbehaving. Exhausted, mom or dad end up hitting their children. Over fifty percent of Americans believe that physical punishment works as a way to enforce discipline. But many experts argue that it can have terrible life-long effects on children. Dan Gottlieb will discuss children, discipline and hitting. His guest is psychologist Robert Fathman, an expert on effective discipline.

Aging and Mental Health
Listen via Real Audio
Depression and dementia are prevalent among the rising numbers of elderly people in the United States. The high rates have given rise to the belief that mental illness is a normal part of aging - but that is far from the truth. Dr. Dan Gottlieb will discuss mental health and aging with Dr. Ira Katz, geriatric psychiatrist at the University of Pennsylvania. We'll also hear from Rabbi Zalman Schachter, author of "From Aging to Saging."

Encore Presentation: Dating
Listen via Real Audio
Most people used to date somebody they met in high school or college. Dating also used to be for young people, but as more people post-pone marriage, and millions get divorced, the rules of dating are changing rapidly. There's internet dating, speed dating, dating for seniors, and even though the world has changed, the desire to connect and find love remains the same. Dan Gottlieb will examine dating with family therapist Dr. Robert Gordon. We'll also talk about the growing trend of cohabitation with Dorion Solot, author of "Unmarried To Each Other."
