New Study on Divorce
Listen
via Real Audio
When two people are unhappily married, the assumption is that either they live miserably ever after, or they get a divorce and start a better life. But a new study challenges this notion. Researchers at the Institute for American Values argue that a bad marriage can get better, and that divorce doesn't make people happier. Our guests are Maggie Gallagher and Steven Treat. Gallagher is the coauthor of "The Case for Marriage." Treat is a therapist with the Council for Relationships

Encore Presentation: Motherland
Listen
via Real Audio
During the terrors of the Nazi regime, many Jewish children in Germany were sent to safety in the United States. One of them was 12-year-old Edith Westerfeld. Her parents desperately wanted to protect her from the increasing anti-Semitism, but could not leave themselves. Edith never saw her parents again, and the loss of her family and homeland would haunt her for the next sixty years. Finally, together with her daughter, writer Fern Schumer Chapman, Edith embarked on a powerful physical and spiritual journey back to her birthplace. Chapman chronicled this emotional journey in her book: "Motherland" Edith and Fern will join us to talk about facing painful memories and finding ways to forgive and heal.
