We would like to think that tragic tales of poor children and orphans are a thing of the past - but truth is that countless children are mistreated and abused in the modern foster care system. Dan Gottlieb will discuss the state of foster care - a system that is so flooded with cases that help for children in need often comes too late. His guest are Julie Alexander and Frank Cervone. Alexander is a staff psychologist with Philadelphia's Department of Health and Human Services, Cervone is director of the Support Center for Child Advocates in Philadelphia. We'll also be joined by former foster child Antwone Fisher, author of "Finding Fish" and Dorothy Roberts, author of "Shattered Bonds."

Child Sexual Abuse

Child Sexual Abuse is all over the news right now because of allegations against members of the Catholic Church. But usually, this is a silent epidemic. At least half a million children in this country are sexually abused every year - in almost all cases by a family member or friend. We will hear excerpts from a recent Community Forum on Child Sexual Abuse held at WHYY. During this discussion, both a victim and a perpetrator talked about their experience. Their stories were followed by audience questions and comments from experts. Dr. Dan Gottlieb is joined by Evan Smith, program director of "Stop It Now," an organization dedicated to preventing and ending child sexual abuse.
