Hormones and Women's Health
Listen
via Real Audio Many women between the ages of 25-65 suffer from health problems that include migraines, fibromyalgia, loss of sex drive and chronic fatigue. When seeking medical advice for these problems, women often feel that they are being dismissed as hypochondriacal or neurotic.
We know more about the connection between hormones, physical health and mental well-being than we ever have, and doctors are beginning to take this connection seriously. But there is still much confusion, and many women feel that they are not getting the help and advice they need.
Dr. Gottlieb's guest is Dr. Elizabeth Vliet, one of the leading experts in the field of women's health and the author of "Screaming To Be Heard: Hormonal Connections Women Suspect... And Doctors Ignore". We'll also be joined by Dr. Eileen Engel, gynecologist and expert on menopause.

Of Two Minds
Listen
via Real Audio The exploration of the human mind in distress and the proverbial gray area of proper disease diagnosis is a world often shrouded in mystery. How do psychiatrists learn to understand, treat, and ultimately heal the unsettled mind? How do they recognize the dangers of a patient on the edge? How do they integrate talk and drug therapies into a successful healing combination? Are they treating people's brains or their minds?
Dr. Gottlieb will be joined by T.L. Luhrmann, a professor of anthropology at the University of California in San Diego, and the author of " Of Two Minds: The Growing Disorder in American Psychiatry ", a book based on interviews and observations that examine the field of psychiatry as it is today, as well as explore the dichotomy between drug and talk therapies. We will also be joined by a psychiatrist on faculty at the University of Pennsylvania.

Latino Children / Multiracial Families
Listen
via Real Audio The United States is a nation founded on cultural diversity and equality. But for many minorities and multicultural families, daily prejudice and ignorance distorts the American promise of freedom and lessens their quality of life.
Hispanic Americans are on the verge of becoming the largest ethnic group in the United States. The importance of maintaining a cultural equilibrium is necessary not only for Hispanics, but for any culture to survive and flourish.
Dr. Gottlieb will be joined by Dr. Gloria Rodriguez, author of 'Nuestros Ninos', a book that advises Hispanic parents on raising children who are aware of their cultural roots. She is also the founder of Avance; known around the world as a leading parent/education and family support organization. We will also be joined by Mark and Kelley Kenney, authors of "Counseling Multiracial Families", a book that examines multiracial identity.
