In Eddie's Name
Listen
via Real Audio Most of us remember the story of Eddie Polec, the bright high school student who was brutally murdered in the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia
in 1994. We remember the ensuing 911 scandal, and the trial of his killers. But in
the face of tragedy and brutality, Eddie's family called for peace in
their community, and for the necessary improvements of the 911 system.
Five years after Eddie's death, we hear from his parents, John and Kathy,
and from a mental health professional who helped facilitate healing in the
family and community. We'll also hear from Bryn Freedman, who covered
Eddie's story for Fox 29. She is the author of a new book called "In
Eddie's Name."

Mindfulness and Inner Peace
Listen
via Real Audio
This New Year many of us want to make a new start, and make meaningful
changes. What is the deeper meaning of life, how can we connect with the
ones we love, find the time we need, and rid ourselves of stresses?
On this program, we'll look at two approaches to mindfulness and inner
peace. First we'll speak with Buddhist lecturer and author Sylvia
Boorstein. Later, we are joined by Dr. Michael Baime, a physician and
director of the Stress Management Program at the University of
Pennsylvania. Baime uses meditation as a way to reduce stress, and teaches
his practices to patients and fellow physicians.

A Good Night's Sleep
Listen
via Real Audio
Are you spending your nights tossing and turning? Are you worrying about
your bills, your job, your health as the precious night hours are
dwindling away?
What can be done? A new mattress is not the only answer - nutrition,
sleeping habits, room temperature and many more factors all play a role.
Be sure to tune into the next Voices in the Family, when we speak with
sleep expert
Dr. Jodi Mindell.

Facing Our Fire
Listen
via Real Audio
When we are furious, we often say things like "I am so angry, I could kill someone." Truth is, many people and especially men have trouble expressing their anger, and become violent as a result. On this show, we will explore a workshop for men that addresses anger. We will hear from keynote speaker John Lee, author of "Facing the Fire, Experiencing and Expressing Anger Appropriately." We'll also be joined by Paul Kivel, founder of the Oakland Men's Project in California. He has devoted his life to changing the way we raise boys.
