1967: Listener Supported

WHYY-FM expanded to a seven-day schedule and increased the number of hours it was on the air during the weekend in the late '60s. Programming continued to be mainly educational, with classical music in the evenings and material provided by the Eastern Educational Radio Network -- a partnership of stations including WGBH in Boston and WAMU in Washington D.C. It was also in this year that WHYY-FM began referring to itself on the air as "listener supported," a precursor to the on-air "moneythons" that started in 1971.
