News had been a part of WHYY-FM from its conception, but it wasn't until the early '60s that a regularly scheduled news segment was introduced on 91FM. Before then, news items were presented as either radio dramas, panel discussions or "special reports." In 1963, the station went through another change -- its call letters became WUHY-FM in order to comply with a FCC dual-license rule.
