1954: Wider Horizons for You and Yours

WHYY-FM, or "Wider Horizons for You and Yours," was designed to be a non-commercial, educational radio station for the greater Philadelphia community. Households throughout Philadelphia, Camden, Chester, Bucks, Delaware and Montgomery Counties, and as far away as Allentown, PA, and Trenton and Vineland, New Jersey, could hear WHYY. An early pamphlet announcing the start of the station boasted that it had one of the largest coverage areas of any non-commercial radio station in the nation because of its "high-gain antenna which is 600 feet in height and dominates the Philadelphia skyline."
